Movement and Martial Arts Experience

I have been training in TaeKwon-Do since 1990, I am currently a 5th Degree black belt. I ran a successful TaeKwon-Do School in Penrith for 20 years, before opening a Budokon Mixed Movement Arts Academy in 2022.

I am a Budokon Mixed Movement Athlete and have completed over 1000 hours of training (200 hour yoga teacher training, 100 hour mobility teacher training, 500 hour intensive and many 3 and 5 day workshops) with the Budokon Founder Cameron Shayne. I am a Budokon Yoga teacher and Mobility teacher and a Budokon Martial Artist. I have been teaching Budokon in Cumbria since 2017 and in 2022, I opened the first Budokon school in the North of England.

What is Budokon?

BU- 'warrior', -DO- 'way', -KON 'spirit' can be translated as “The Way of the Spiritual Warrior.”

Budokon was established in 2001, by Cameron Shayne - considered by many to be the father of Mixed Movement Arts.

The Budokon Mixed Movement Arts system integrates 5 key movement modalities, combining; Martial Arts, Yoga, Mobility, Calisthenics and Animal Locomotion. The system was created as a condition practice for movers of all types seeking the highest level of agility, mobility, stamina, and strength. The fluid and powerful movements develop physical and mental focus and precision. This unique and strong practice is ideal for the athletic yogi seeking to tap into their warrior side.

As well as movement, Budokon students can also study 5 other areas of personal development referred to as mind science, including; Critical Thinking, Emotional Intelligence, Interpersonal Relationships, Nutrition, and Environmental Awareness.

At the heart of the practice lies the physical, mental and emotional development of the practitioner. Budokon is a worldwide network of innovators who forge new understandings of self and society, and pioneer new paths for change.

The purpose of the physical part of Budokon is to gain muscular strength, cardiovascular stamina and joint mobility. Thus, being a physically demanding style, it is intended to challenge the mental constructs you may have about yourself, leading to self-transformation through self-observation. In other words: the physical work strengthens the body, the mental work strengthens the mind.

Budokon Yoga

The foundation of this style is the Budokon Yoga Primary Series. This series consists of seven intelligently assembled sections of slow and controlled movements designed to improve mobility, agility, flexibility and strength. The techniques are learned through repetition and precision, with the emphasis being on the transition from posture to posture, rather than the holding of postures.

Budokon Mobility

Learn how to construct, deconstruct, progress and regress quadrupedal movement patterns. Creative sequences of different movements, based on yoga, martial arts, animal locomotion, dance and free-form movement. A big focus of this movement training is the mobility of your joints. This mobility enables you to prevent injuries and enable you to continue with your movement practice for decades.

Budokon Martial Arts

The Budokon Mixed Martial Arts training consists of both upright self-defence arts or "stand up fighting" and self-defence from/on the ground or "ground fighting" arts.

Budokon is taught as a "non-classical" style, suggesting that it is built from traditional martial arts but without attachment to any specific style. As such, it is fair to say that Budokon is a Hybrid Mixed Martial Arts system, drawing from several styles of Martial Arts, although heavily influenced by Karate, TaeKwon-Do, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Budokon Animal Locomotion

Cameron Shayne believes that animal locomotion matters because humans evolved from quadrupeds. Changing the number of limbs used for locomotion can therefore result in a change in anatomy and may help people with spinal irregularities, movement disabilities and can recalibrate the physical architecture. Besides, such integrated movement balances the relationship between the pelvic girdle and the shoulder girdle, creating new neurological pathways and thereby improving the relationship between the right and the left brain. According to Cameron Shayne, Budokon is the first complete codified movement pattern that studies and applies primal movement to help to restore human anatomy. Learn how to construct, deconstruct, progress and regress quadrupedal movement patterns.
